Los Angeles, January 30, 2008 – The wind picked up just as the stars began arriving at Grauman’s Chinese Theater for the premiere of Fool’s Gold, and it kept everyone laughing, even as we waited for a very late Kate Hudson to appear.  We all got a peek at some of the things that Matthew McConaughey likes about his girlfriend Camila Alves – once she removed her demure, knee-length coat, wind gusts made short work of her strapless dress, forcing the newly pregnant model to hold it down as her hair whipped around.  McConaughey, who was fully clothed for once, got a kick out if.  When Hudson did finally get there, she was engulfed by the large ruffled collar of her dress, which kept flapping in the wind.  Kate laughed as much as we did.

January 26-27, 2008 – We don’t usually dabble in dresses and baby bumps here at OAN, but we could look at Cate Blanchett forever, and we’re so intrigued by the statuesque, boyishly-built Australian’s pregnancy that we’re making an exception.  We ran into the I’m Not There star two days in a row this weekend, and the dresses she wore showed off her six-months-along belly quite differently.

The solid color and slimmer fit of the green knee-length frock Cate wore on Saturday at the Santa Barbara Film Festival really showed off the baby bump.   At Sunday’s SAG Awards, you really had to squint to see her belly beneath the busy print and loose cut of the floor-length Balenciaga gown. 

Cate was glowing on both days. 

Los Angeles, January 27, 2008 – With the writers’ strike casting uncertainty over award season in Hollywood, the SAG Awards drew a lot of stars to the Shrine Auditorium on Sunday.  If the Oscars ceremony is scuttled by the strike, this might be the only chance actors get to shine and preen on a red carpet this season.  Even the weather was undecided as folks strolled the red carpet on Sunday, alternating between driving rain and sunny skies. 

While there were some prominent no-shows, including George Clooney and Katherine Heigl, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie signed autographs, and the reclusive Julie Christie turned up to pick up her SAG award.  Tom Cruise and John Travolta both participated in the show, but skipped the red carpet hoopla. 

Kate Hudson was amused at the pandemonium that erupted when she and Matthew McConaughey arrived in the backstage press room.  “Wow!  I’m not even pregnant with his baby”, Hudson quipped.  The two costar in the upcoming movie Fool’s Gold, and McConaughey is expecting a child with his girlfriend Camila Alves.

New York, January 22-23, 2008 – David Letterman couldn’t resist ruffling John Edwards’ notoriously perfect hair on his show on Tuesday, but, we figure, studio hair stylists had probably worked on it first.  But earlier that day, we spotted the former senator toning up for his Late Show appearance at a Sheraton Hotel gym in Manhattan, and while the sweaty presidential hopeful shot our photographer dirty looks from the treadmill, his hair remained in place. 

The next evening, we caught up with Hillary Clinton in New Jersey, but she wasn’t working out, she was campaigning.  Her hair looked okay.
