Los Angeles, April 26, 2006 – We got all of our magazine reading done on Wednesday, what with Vanity Fair’s party in New York, and US Weekly’s Hot Hollywood party in L.A. both on the same day. And the contrasts between the two were clichéd – suits, power and money in cold, gray New York, vs. skin, sex and young(er) hotness in warm, sunny Hollywood. In fact, between US Weekly’s hot pinkish backdrop, Absolut’s “ruby red” carpet and the orange tulips in front of WeHo hotspot Republic, we felt a bit queasy. US Weekly honored Jessica Alba for being a style icon, but that trophy she had on her arm was her equally good-looking, slightly younger brother, Joshua Alba. Also in the family way were Paris and Nicky Hilton, hanging in a corner banquette with Kevin Connolly and Kimberly Stewart. Not everyone brought a sibling. Avril Lavigne was with her fiancé, Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley, Tori Spelling was practically tattooed onto her man, Dean McDermott, and Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro continued to defy breakup rumors. Junior-set heartthrob Jesse McCartney caused unendurable 'tween angst by bringing Katie Cassidy. David Spade came solo. He’s been seeing Heather Locklear, who is said to be despondent over the fact that her estranged husband, Richie Sambora, has been having an affair with her best friend, Denise Richards. We read that in US Weekly. |

Crashes Vanity Fair Party |

New York, April 26, 2006 – "Graydon Carter. G-R-A-Y-D-O-N. It’s his magazine that’s throwing this party. Vanity Fair". It’s a refreshing reality check to have all of these out-of-town journalists in New York for the Tribeca Film Festival. So naturally, hardly anyone at the annual Vanity Fair party blinked when Page Six commander Richard Johnson arrived with his bride, Sessa von Richthofen, fresh from their scandal-tinged honeymoon. Vanity Fair budgets nicely, using the same State Supreme courthouse at 60 Centre Street, the same votive candles all over the stone steps, with the same gigantic red letters (V-A-N-I-T-Y F-A-I-R) across the top step. They also had the same New York powerbroker guests – Ron Perelman, Diane von Furstenberg, Russell Simmons, the film festival founders Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal plus assorted actors, directors, artists and sports figures. Noticeably missing were A-list Hollywood stars, like the magazine’s Oscar party. Maybe that’s a West Coast thing? While his goreous wife, Iman, was posing for photos, David Bowie sidled over to a nearby security guard and struck a sentry-like pose, the guard completely unaware. Someone introduced Graydon Carter to Ron Galella, who was snapping photos on the front steps. Carter personally brought the legendary paparazzo inside the party. Our favoirite moment of the evening was when famously witty, infamously blocked writer Fran Lebowitz, all dressed up in a gray flannel man-tailored suit, stopped to pose for photos, and quipped, “I feel like Frangelina!” (L-E-B-O-W-I….Oh, never mind.) |

New York, April 25, 2006 – There’s a first time for everything. At the Food Bank for New York City’s "Can-Do" Awards at Chelsea Piers on Tuesday, Michael Moore, who never met a camera or a microphone he didn’t like, walked right on in, ignoring photographers and expectant reporters. Michael Moore had nothing to say. We’re speechless. But Jimmy Fallon filled in, chatting about everything from his Factory Girl co-star Sienna Miller – “that girl is the best, the coolest” – to MySpace – “I think there are already like 10 Jimmy Fallons; not mine, though. I’m the one NOT looking for black trannies.” This being a hunger relief gala, we got Fallon talking about his favorite culinary haunts. “Shake Shack is life-changing. Then we have the guy – I don’t know what the name is, but, garlic steak on 9th Avenue and 40th Street. it’s open til like 4 in the morning. It’s pretty sick. The guy has a beard, there’s an Internet jukebox; sangria; it’s pretty good.” (Translation of the latter: Andalucia.} Michael Stipe was the evening’s honoree, and a champagne reception followed the dinner with Helena Christensen spinning, legend Patti Smith singing, and, after all the photographers (except for Patrick MacMullan) had left, a glowing Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin breezed in, making their first post-baby public appearance.
