Los Angeles, July 20 – We don’t know what the hustle was, but something dragged half of Hollywood out of the house and over to the Cinerama Dome on Wednesday for the Hustle & Flow premiere. After being spotted around the globe with San Antonio basketball player Tony Parker, Eva Longoria is back in L.A. to resume shooting Desperate Housewives, and she and Parker were very couple-ish at the premiere. Will Smith was gregarious, greeting everyone and joking with the film’s stars Ludacris, Elise Neal and Taryn Manning. Pop singer Brandy made a rare appearance, and Benjamin McKenzie from The O.C., Jeremy Piven, Gabrielle Union, Kerry Washington and Chris Rock all got hustled. |

New York, August 1 – Debbie Harry turned 60 years old in July, but she’s not on the granny track. Instead, she was rocking out on Monday at legendary Bowery rock ‘n roll dive CBGB. Harry did an acoustic set, accompanied only by guitar and keyboards, and the audience was a bit grayer than the usual CBGB crowd. Springsteen guitarist Steve Van Zandt, Patti Smith guitarist Lenny Kaye and former Ramones drummer Tommy Ramone joined Harry in announcing an effort to save the graffiti-scarred birthplace of punk rock, which has been involved in a dispute with its landlord, and faces closure when its current lease expires at the end the month. A roster of concerts this month will culminate with a free event in Washington Square Park on August 31, a sort of rally that, depending upon the status of negotiations, will either celebrate CBGB’s iconic history or serve to pressure the parties to come to a lease agreement. |

New York, July 30 – The afternoon of the Madison Square Garden stop on their farewell tour, the ladies of Destiny’s Child stopped into the New York City Ronald McDonald House and mingled with about 100 seriously ill children and their families. The kids were thrilled, they literally screamed as the three women entered the dining room, where people were seated around tables, decorating cookies. Beyonce, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams came in, sat down together at one of the tables, and joined in the gooey fun, greeting the kids and their parents. The D.C. ladies then worked their way around the room, stopping at all the tables and interacting with the kids. Afterward, when the superstars had a short chat with reporters, we noticed that Kelly and Michelle did most of the talking from the start. When Beyonce finally made a statement, she said, “Being a part of this is so overwhelming. We’re so honored to be here, to be around all these kids”. She then confessed that she waited a few minutes before speaking in order to compose herself, because she was choked up after spending time with the sick children. In fact, we could see tears glittering in her eyes as she spoke. Beyonce did say that even though the three are going their separate ways, they’ll still do projects together. “We’re best friends and sisters. We’re going to be in each other’s lives, and I’m sure we’ll do other things together.” |

Real Dogs on Broadway this Season |

New York, July 30 – Men are all alike. While Claire Danes is in Europe, we caught her man, Billy Crudup, sneaking into an alley with some bitch! After feeling her up, Billy moved onto another, younger, cuter bitch and rubbed her belly. What a cad. Actually, there were a lot of broken hearts in Shubert Alley on Saturday; definitely ours, because we wanted to adopt all of the homeless critters at the seventh annual Broadway Barks pet adopt-a-thon. (Crudup declined our offer, saying he already has a family.) Founders Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore hosted, and David Hyde Pierce, Christine Ebersole, Jeff Goldblum, Bebe Neuwirth, Tom Wopat, Delta Burke (in a cowboy hat), Harvey Fierstein and Bruce Vilanch were some of the stars taking the stage holding a hopeful adoptee, telling the crowd its life story and urging someone to give the furry creature a home. Pushy salespeople, sure, but much more fun than spending the afternoon at a car lot, and you don’t get stuck with a lemon. |

ABC bring TCA tour to star-studded close |

Los Angeles, July 27-29 – The Television Critics Association tour we told you about earlier saved the best for last. Well, not necessarily the best – we’ll leave that determination to those critics – but certainly the networks with the most talked-about stars ended the TCA schmooze-fest with a glitzy bang. ABC toasted the press on Wednesday at West Hollywood gay bar The Abbey. Perhaps the choice of venue was a nod to the popularity of the network’s blockbuster hit, Desperate Housewives, among gay viewers. Anyway, the whole cast was there, Eva Longoria showing off her guy, San Antonio Spurs’ basketball player Tony Parker. He’s tall; she’s not. James Denton brought his wife, Erin, who gave birth to their second child only a few months ago. No doubt she wanted to keep an eye on her man in a gay bar. We’re sure that Abbey regulars would have been delighted to see hunky Patrick Dempsey, star of the hit Grey’s Anatomy, in their midst, and unaccompanied by his wife. Sarah Michelle Gellar let her hubby, Freddie Prinze, Jr., loose at the ABC bash too. Disappointingly absent were most of the hotties from the hit show Lost. Dominic Monaghan and Maggie Grace roamed around, but the the others were reportedly already in Hawaii shooting the next season. On Friday, the Fox Network took over the Santa Monica pier to drool all over the TV critics. Fox’s hottest stars from The O.C. were out in force – newly single Mischa Barton came solo; real-life couple Adam Brody and Rachel Bilson worked the party separately. Despite living nearby, Stacked star Pamela Anderson did not work the party at all; she showed up, posed for photos, chatted briefly with TV reporters, then turned around and left, and headed to a different, non-network party. |
