New York, March 24 –We just watched the Sex and the City gang shooting a hilarious scene, and wanted to tell you about it. Carrie left her house, and got into the back seat of a Town Car. She wore a purple fur coat, pants, sunglasses, and had manuscripts under her arm. As her car turned onto 40th Street from Eight Avenue, the mirror clipped a construction worker who was walking and eating a slice of pizza. The construction worker cursed, and tossed the pizza slice at the car; it landed face-up on the rear window. Carrie's driver stopped the car, got out and walked back, picked up the pizza and threw it back at the construction worker! Funny, right? Carrie remained in the car, cowering and looking at her watch; expressing both sympathy for the victim and impatience to get to her meeting, plus mortification at causing a traffic jam. What’s that? Sex and the City is no longer on the air? So what was Sarah Jessica Parker doing in that limo with the pizza-tossing driver? |

City's Most Wanted: Elijah Wood |

Los Angeles, March 28 – Showbiz hunks Clive Owen, Benicio Del Toro, Kanye West, Ashton Kutcher and 7th Heaven cutie David Gallagher all turned out for the Hollywood premiere of Sin City, but who got all the cheers from female fans that’d been camped outside the Mann Theater since noon? Bright-eyed Elijah Wood had them screaming and panting, rock star-style. Jessica Alba brought her own guy, newish boyfriend Cash Warren, and Rosario Dawson had squeeze Jason Lewis on her arm. Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher dropped off her daughters Tallulah Belle and Rumer, who ran down the red carpet to catch up with dad Bruce Willis, who hugged and kissed them both. Nice diversion: Demi and Ashton slipped in through a side door. |

March 20-26 – Car stuff was happening all over New York this week with the Auto Show in town, and our favorite was the third Volvo for Life ceremony, where the Swedish automaker rewards everyday people who do extraordinary things with, among other things, a new Volvo every three years for life. Held in a TV studio, there aren’t many dry eyes in the room when you hear these heroes’ inspiring stories; meanwhile at street level, Times Square tourists get an earful of top musicians; this year’s headliner was Black Crows, fronted by Kate Hudson’s husband Chris Robinson. Opening was Danish singer/songwriter Tina Dico – great voice, sings in English, should be a household name soon. In the gift bag, an iPod shuffle. Another big musician at a small venue was Ozzy Osbourne, who greeted fans at Tower Records to promote his new boxed-set CD while wife Sharon stood by. Shoppers also got to meet Mischa Barton, who signed Keds for excited O.C. fans at Macy’s. Mischa obviously doesn’t read Go Fug Yourself, because she wore the same dress the fuggers hilariously eviscerated a week before. More stars in stores: at Armani Casa in West Hollywood, we found Samuel L. Jackson, Carmen Electra, Bai Ling and Ashley Scott celebrating the tenth Gen Art Film Festival. The Armani folks hosted a NY counterpart the previous week. No wonder Sarah Jessica Parker wanted to give up her Sex and the City role – 40 is a bit long in the tooth to be a mini skirted single girl. SJP and hubby Matthew Broderick celebrated the milestone with a private bash at the now-shuttered Plaza Hotel. Miss Congeniality Sandra Bullock celebrated her very own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, surrounded by friends, including her Monster Garage biker boyfriend Jesse James. |

Births Daughter, Bono Births Edun |

Los Angeles, March 25 – James Denton of Desperate Housewives fame, and wife Erin, welcomed a new daughter, Malin, to the world on Tuesday morning. So what was the new dad doing with a much-younger woman on his arm the very next day at the Miss Congeniality 2 premiere, and then a few days later with yet another pretty lady at a party at Saks in Beverly Hills? Actually, Denton’s family came to L.A. to celebrate the birth, but became starstruck; his niece insisted on meeting Congeniality star Sandra Bullock, and his sister couldn’t be kept from getting up close to Bono, who introduced his eco-clothing line, Edun, like he did in New York recently. Bono tossed a reception smack in the middle of Saks’ shoe department, where shoppers found Minnie Driver, Gerard Butler and Lisa Rinna mingling with the U2 frontman and wife Ali Hewson. Jane Seymour and her daughter Katherine Flynn fought over a jacket, but called a truce. “We both wear the same size, so we can share it”, Seymour said. |

Tree Hill: The Musical |

New York, March 23 – Like Lindsay Lohan and Hilary Duff, some of the young actors from the TV series One Tree Hill have musical pretensions, and their month-long concert tour rolled into New York City this week. Based on his looks alone, teen heartthrob Chad Michael Murray could probably fill a concert hall with screaming tweens. Add pretty boy Tyler Hilton, a musician who has a recurring role on the TV drama, and you have a full-on panty-tossing frenzy. Bethany Joy Lenz, who plays Haley on the show, is on the tour, as is Michelle Branch, who with Jessica Harp makes up the duo The Wreckers. Gavin DeGraw joined the tour for a few dates; DeGraw does the show’s theme song, and all of the acts on the tour contributed tracks to a recently issued CD from the series, making the One Tree Hill Tour packaging heaven. |

Get Beauty Shop Treatment |

Los Angeles March 24 – Beauty Shop has a cast of thousands, and the movie’s Hollywood premiere was similar, with everybody from Garcelle Bauvais to Ed McMahon to Cedric the Entertainer at the Mann Theater on Thursday, getting the first laughs. It was a real family evening – Queen Latifah brought her parents, Kevin Bacon was with wife Kyra Sedgwick and one of their daughters, Jane Seymour was with husband James Keach and one of her daughters, and so forth. Alicia Silverstone, Andie MacDowell, Djimon Hounsou and Alfre Woodard all play main characters, as does an unruly-maned Mena Suvari, who apparently hasn’t had time to visit a beauty shop lately. |

Congeniality Not So Hygienic |

Los Angeles March 23 – It’s good to know that at least some people have kept their jobs during the tumultuous post-dot.com media meltdown. For instance, Mark Steines has been an Entertainment Tonight correspondent since 1995, and Sandra Bullock has been Miss Congeniality since 2000. At the premiere of Miss Congeniality 2, we got misty-eyed as these two survivors mused over their delightful encounter of four years ago, when the original Congeniality made its debut. Reminding Steines that he’d scolded her back then for chewing gum during interviews, making her spit hers out, Bullock turned the tables last night: “Well, you’re chewing gum, so spit it out”, she said, putting her hand out to receive it. Steines obediently opened his mouth and dropped the gum into Bullock’s waiting hand. She then stuck the wad onto the metal barricade, finished her interview, and greeted a group of drag queens. |
