XX/XY Premiere, Gotham Magazine Party

Thora Birch at XX/XY Premiere   Laura Elena Harring at XX/XY Premiere   Supermodel Alek Wek at Gotham Magazine

April 8 - The premiere of XX/XY closed the Gen Art Film Festival with a bevy of young indie movie talent. Laura Elena Harring (Mulholland Drive), Thora Birch (American Beauty), Third Rock from the Sun's Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Heather Matarazzo (Welcome to the Dollhouse) and not-so-young Cyndi Lauper took in the film, then partied up a storm at Club Show World.

The same evening, supermodel Alek Wek prettied up Gotham magazine's party at the W Hotel.

Eos Orchestra Gala, GLAAD Media Awards

Composers Philip Glass & Stephen Sondheim   Rosie O'Donnell at GLAAD   Rosario Dawson at GLAAD

April 7 - Despite an April snowstorm, music reigned Monday evening at the Eos Orchestra's benefit gala, hosted by composer Philip Glass and Sex and the City's Kim Catrall. Among the guests at the dinner, performance and auction were legendary composer Stephen Sondheim, artist Chuck Close, actor Oliver Platt and other movers and shakers. Naturally, there was live musical accompaniment from beginning to end.

Uptown at the GLAAD Media Awards ceremony we found Rosie O'Donnell, Diane Sawyer, Cynthia Nixon, director John Waters, Rosario Dawson, Phil Donahue and Marlo Thomas, to name a few. We were torn between these two events this evening, so we compromised and went to both.

Beverly Feldman Shoe Salon Opens, Boys' Town of Italy Ball

Rapper Madina at Beverly Feldman shoe salon opening party   Kim Catrall tries on shoes at Beverly Feldman   Billy Crystal & Alan King at Boys' Town of Italy Gala

April 3 - 4 - Sex and the City's Kim Catrall's shoe size is 8, 81/2 or 9 depending on the designer. How do we know this? Kim came to the opening night party of shoe designer Beverly Feldman's flagship, sat down in the middle of the packed store and tried on at least a dozen pair. Kathy and Rick Hilton and Good Morning America's Joan Lunden talked footware all night. Up and coming rapper Madina has a CD out soon, the first single with Snoop Dogg.

Billy Crystal told us how he became General Chairman of Boys' Town of Italy: "I'm presenting the award to my good friend Ed Micone. When you do that they give you a title, which I'm happy to have because it's a great organization. I'm glad to be here, it's going to raise a lot of money and help a lot of people. So that's it; that makes me General Chairman. Fuggedaboudit!" MC comedian Alan King kept the black-tie crowd roaring.

Phone Booth Premiere, Life x3 Opens on Broadway

Ralph & Ricky Lauren at Phone Booth premiere   Colin Farrell smokes up the screen in Phone Booth   Phone Booth costars Katie Holmes & Colin Farrell

Kellie Carpenter & Rosie O'Donnell at Life x3   Kristen Davis takes a break from Sex & The City at Life x3   Kyra Sedgwick & Kevin Bacon at Life x3

March 31 - The new movie Phone Booth stars Hollywood heartthrob Colin Farrell as a slick New York publicist held hostage in a phone booth by a sniper. We don't mind that the thriller was shot on soundstages rather than in New York City, but expecting moviegoers to believe there's a working pay phone in the Big Apple is really taking artistic license too far. The film's release was delayed when the real-life snipers terrorized the Washington D.C. area. The congenial Farrell chain-smoked and cussed while chatting. He and costar Katie Holmes didn't work together too often - most of the dialogue was done on the phone. The most difficult thing while shooting the film was standing in the small space all day. Farrell's next project is A Home at the End of the World, based on a book by The Hours author Michael Cunningham.

The same night Broadway was abuzz with the opening of the comedy Life x3 starring Helen Hunt and John Turturro. Kevin Bacon and wife Kyra Sedgwick, Sex and the City's Kristen Davis and Chris Noth, and comedian Rosie O'Donnell and her partner Kellie Carpenter took in the show.

The Play What I Wrote Opens on Broadway

Billy Crystal   Alan Cumming   Roger Moore and wife Christina

March 30 - Nasty weather didn't keep a glittering crowd from turning out for The Play What I Wrote's Broadway opening. Transplanted from the London stage, the comedy features a revolving door of celebrity guest stars - first up in New York was Kevin Kline. Billy Crystal told us he came because he heard that it's hilarious, with great direction by Kenneth Branagh. Caroline Kennedy, Alan Cumming, Diane Sawyer and Mike Nichols, Roger Moore, Natalie Portman, Lee Radziwill, British comic Eddie Izzard, Sam Rockwell, Rosie Perez, Barry Diller and Diane Von Furstenburg and lots of other bold-faced names apparently all heard the same buzz.

Mark Morris Dance Group's 2003 Gala Benefit

Isaac Mizrahi   Willem Dafoe and wife Elizabeth LeCompte   Debbie Harry

March 25 - It was a big evening for the Mark Morris Dance Group with a benefit gala following their opening night performance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi, who's been designing the costumes for Mark Morris' dance company for years, says that the close friends have disagreements all the time, but never when working on projects together. "If we ever disagree about a show, it's Mark's show so I acquiesce very quickly. We never fight about costumes, we're very harmonious about that", Isaac told us. Who'd have thought that Willem Dafoe, famous for his dark onscreen personas, is a big dance fan? He and wife Elizabeth LeCompte were thrilled by tonight's performance. Rock icon Debbie Harry and actor Sam Waterston also popped in to the party.

NRDC's Forces for Nature Gala

Kerry Kennedy Cuomo, Mary Richardson Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Sigourney Weaver

Calista Flockhart and Harrison Ford discuss natural resources

March 5 - New York City's Pier 60 was done up in a jungle theme complete with bird calls at international environmental group Natural Resources Defense Council's annual gala. Actress Sigourney Weaver hosted the event at which Harrison Ford and Sara Shallenberger Brown were honored for their environmental and conservation efforts. The event was also meant to raise awareness of a threatened natural area in Belize, where Ford filmed The Mosquito Coast and became aware of that country's biodiversity. Ford's paramour Calista Flockhart, Kerry Kennedy Cuomo, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and his wife Mary Richardson Kennedy came out for the cause.
