New York, May 4, 2009 – The Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute gala once again drew a knockout crowd of superstars and the fashion designers who love them. Attendees got the first look at the Costume Institute’s exhibition celebrating models a muses. Co-chairs Marc Jacobs and Kate Moss were the very first to arrive – they got to the ball even before Anna Wintour! People were shocked, not only that Kate was on time, but because she looked bizarre in a shiny short toga dress with matching turban. Not long after, Marc’s fiancé Lorenzo Martone escorted Victoria Beckham up the museum stairs. By our very unscientific count, three designers – Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney and Donatella Versace - dominated by having their frocks on the greatest number of extremely famous bodies at the Met gala. Between his namesake brand and the Louis Vuitton label, Marc Jacobs dressed Kate Moss, Madonna, Victoria Beckham, Kanye West, Leighton Meester, Winona Ryder and Anne Hathaway. Stella McCartney had the beauties Liv Tyler, Kate Hudson and Kate Bosworth all wrapped up in her lovely designs. And although Donatella reportedly did not buy a table at the gala this year, she draped Versace on her date, Cindy Crawford, as well as Jessica Biel, Emma Roberts, Gisele Bundchen, Claudia Schiffer, Blake Lively and Penn Badgley. Badgley joked that Donatella herself did his tuxedo fittings. Among the very last to arrive were Bono and Ali Hewson, who, as they swept into the party, told us they were wearing an Irish designer label whose name we didn’t catch. And Rihanna made a very dramatic late entrance in a striking Dolce & Gabbana pantsuit. |
