New York, March 31 - April 2, 2009 – Topshop opened its first U.S. store with quite a bit of fanfare. There were two days of private shopping events for invited VIPs, and owner Sir Philip Green closed down Balthazar for two nights, serving dinner to those exhausted shoppers. Tuesday night’s dinner featured a slew of performers including Santogold, Mark Ronson and Jimmy Fallon, who admitted he’s not much of a shopper – but his wife, Nancy Juvonen loves it! Nonetheless, Fallon was excited about the Topshop gig despite the long hours he’s putting in at his new late night talk show. “This will be fun, but I’ve got to go to work early tomorrow.” Day two was when Kate Moss showed up, in time for Jennifer Hudson’s not-so-secret performance. Those lucky VIP shoppers included Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, Jay-Z, Debbie Harry, Rosario Dawson, Lily Donaldson, Georgina Chapman and Emma Roberts. Brit Emily Mortimer showed off her fuchsia Topshop jacket, which she calls “a bit of a showstopper.” Marc Jacobs showed off his new engagement ring. On Thursday, Kate cut the ribbon and let us common folk into the new Topshop flagship in Soho, and late at night was yet a third party at The Box. |
