New York, September 16, 2008 – “Just last week I had some of the kids up to my office. These kids are worried about am I going to have enough to get the book I need to pass my class? It’s something that I know, because I was born with a rusty spoon in my mouth, so I understand what it is. It touched my heart,” Kevin Liles said at the New Yorkers for Children fall gala. The organization looks out for kids in foster care, and they came out to honor the Warner Music exec at the gala, along with a slew of famous folks like Jay-Z and Beyonce, Mariska Hargitay, Julianne Moore and Blake Lively. “I’m here for the guest of honor, Kevin Liles,” Gayle King said. “Kevin and I are really good friends,” she added. You couldn’t walk far at Cipriani without bumping into a boldface name. Fresh from the exhaustion of Fashion Week, Proenza Schouler duo Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez turned up, as did Zac Posen, who said that as a child he was “imaginative, creative and very dramatic.” Oscar de la Renta told us that as a kid he was a terrible student, but very ambitious. Jimmy Fallon just moved back to New York from L.A., where he’d been living with his wife of nine months, Nancy Juvonen. His tux was the first thing he unpacked – he needed it for the evening’s performance. Patti LaBelle and Lupe Fiasco also performed and kept the crowd from thinking about that day’ meltdown on Wall Street. |
