New York, April 13, 2008 – It was a chaotic red carpet – actually a blue carpet – on Sunday when way too many comedians made their way into Manhattan’s Beacon Theater for Comedy Central’s live on-air charity special, “Night of Too Many Stars: An Overbooked Concert for Autism Education”. A reporter near us tripped and fell flat on her face, pulling down the velvet rope that separated the press from the talent. Earlier, we’d heard a loud crash; apparently that was a photographer falling off of his stepladder. There was a lot of love in the air. When asked who he was most looking forward to seeing on the show, Kelsey Grammer replied, “Well, after me, actually, I really don’t know.” But not everyone was so conceited; Triumph the Insult Comic Dog said he loves Sarah Silverman because she’s the only comedian with more body hair than he has. Richard Belzer thinks Triumph is not the best influence on his dog Bebe. “They’ve been on television together”, Belzer told us. “They went out drinking together, and Bebe came home much later than usual with cat on his breath.” Susie Essman, who was doing improv with Larry David on the show, said that she’s really at her funniest at home. “With my family, it’s never endingly humorous because I have teenagers.” After the benefit, all the funny people partied in the 36th-floor ballroom of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, with spectacular views of the city. |
