Los Angeles, March 11, 2008 – America Ferrera has a darker side. Most famous as the star of the hit comedy Ugly Betty and the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies, she’s demonstrated range with appearances in some highly dramatic, less commercial, Spanish-language films. At Tuesday’s premiere of La Misma Luna (Under the Same Moon), she tried not to steal the spotlight from stars Kate Del Castillo and Eugenio Derbez; Ferrera graciously posed for photos, and then headed on into the Egyptian Theatre so as not to hog all the attention. Luna opens on March 19, the same week that Ferrera’s indie film Hacia La Oscuridad (Towards Darkness) opens in New York. We chatted with her last Spring, when that film screened at the Tribeca Film Festival. The release of both small movies may be perfectly timed – after making the rounds of promotional appearances, Ferrera heads back to work on the Ugly Betty set on Monday, after a four month hiatus thanks to the writers’ strike. |
