New York, February 8, 2008 – Marc Jacobs’ show started on time – well, 20 minutes after the scheduled hour, but for a fashion show, that’s early, and a far cry from last season, when Jacobs’ minions told us all to go away, and to come back two hours later. The designer is so notorious for late starts that we could see the panic on the faces of attendees as they arrived after the show started, scurrying, trying to get past security at the Lexington Avenue armory. And there was a short window – the fashion show lasted only about 10 minutes, the models hoofing along on an elevated runway, accompanied by the band Sonic Youth playing live. Kevin Federline was one of those who had hit both Sean Combs’ Sean John show, and then hightailed it over to Marc Jacobs, fully confident that he had plenty of time. Everyone wondered if this was Jacobs’ joke on the industry that has scorned his extreme tardiness while worshipping his design prowess. Victoria Beckham, Ellen Pompeo, Becki Newton, Selma Blair, Debbie Harry and Molly Sims were among the celebs who made it on time.
