Los Angeles, February 23, 2008 – The Film Independent Spirit Awards ceremony was abloom with baby bumps this year.  Most notably, Angelina Jolie wore a tight-fitting black dress that revealed all as she made her way down the Spirit Awards’ blue carpet with partner Brad Pitt.  The superstar couple have not publicly acknowledged her pregnancy amid speculation that grew to a roar at last month’s SAG Awards, where Jolie wore a loose-fitting gown that started tongues wagging.  Her ensemble at the Spirit Awards, for which she received a best actress nomination for her work in the film A Mighty Heart, left nothing to the imagination.

We on the blue carpet speculated that Cate Blanchett might not show up, since she’s currently seven months pregnant with her third child.   But suddenly, the Aussie actress was there, glowing, and it’s a good thing, because she took the best supporting actress trophy for I’m Not There.

And Juno – a movie about a pregnant teenager – swept the Spirit Awards with nods for best picture, best actress for Ellen Page, and best first screenplay for writer Diablo Cody. 

The Spirit Awards took place in a tent on the Santa Monica beach once again, with windswept rain greeting Hollywood’s elite including Forest Whitaker, Jada Pinkett Smith, Sienna Miller, Lisa Kudrow, Kate Beckinsale, Javier Bardem, John Waters, Keri Russell and Aaron Eckhart. 

Some at the Spirit Awards paid tribute to Heath Ledger, who died unexpextedly of an overdose in January.
