New York, January
22, 2008 – The world was stunned on Tuesday
by the unexpected death of actor Heath Ledger, and the scene at the Soho
apartment building where he spent his last moments was surreal. The
first media outlets began arriving around 5:30 P.M., about one hour after
the Brokeback Mountain star’s death hit the news. By
6 P.M., the New York City Coroner arrived, yellow crime-scene tape went
up outside the building, and barricades were set up to control the tidal
wave of media and onlookers descending on the scene. At one point,
a ladder was brought in, reportedly to cover the windows inside the fourth
floor loft at 421 Broome Street. The body was removed relatively
quickly, and an autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday. Reports that
the apartment belonged to Mary-Kate Olsen were apparently untrue. |
