New York, December
10, 2007 – Daniel Day-Lewis is
quite the sartorial chameleon, and he didn’t disappoint at the
premiere of There Will Be Blood on Monday, where he wore a suit
in an autumnal palette windowpane pattern, with gold hoops through both
ears. His character in the film is rather evil, we hear, but Day-Lewis
takes a more generous view. “He’s just earning a crust”. Day-Lewis
claims not to have been squeamish about rolling around in the oil, dust
and mud on the set. “I like getting dirty”, he told
us. Paul Dano, who plays his nemesis, had a more
earthy description of the shoot: “We were in Marfa, Texas, six
days a week shooting in the desert; three-piece wool suits, 100º heat;
it was brutal”, he said. “I got thrown in the mud,
I got fed mud by Daniel Day-Lewis a couple times.” Saturday
Night Live stars Andy Samberg, Amy Poehler, Rachel
Dratch and Bill Hader turned out to support Maya
Rudolph, who cohabits with the film’s director, Paul
Thomas Anderson. |
