New York, November 15, 2007 – What could bring Kate Moss to New York for the first time in ages?  An ultra-luxe designer sample sale endorsed by Vogue’s Anna Wintour did the trick.  The English supermodel attended the black-tie dinner to kick off 7th on Sale, where designer goods are drastically reduced, and 100% of proceeds go to AIDS/HIV education.  The gala was at the 69th Regiment Armory on Lexington Avenue where Marc Jacobs always shows, and leading lights of fashion and show business entered through a block-long tent done up Harem-style, draped with Persian carpets and red velvet.  This was before they even entered the armory, also which also had a sort of Arabian Nights flavor.

Not surprisingly, with Diane von Furstenberg, Francisco Costa, Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Georgina Chapman and Kenneth Cole on hand, everyone was in drop-dead fashion.  Ashley Olsen attended solo, without her rumored squeeze Lance Armstrong. Eddie Murphy’s ex-wife, Nicole, brought football player Michael StrahanValentino was with Elle McPherson, and got into a chat with Iman.  When a photographer instructed Vera Wang, “Look at me like I’m the only one in the room”, the designer deadpanned, “That’s what my husband says”.

The venue is a real armory, and we saw khaki-clad soldiers quietly going about their duties in the midst of Liv Tyler, Naomi Campbell, Kate Bosworth, the hilarious Bette Midler, Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany, Mary-Kate Olsen, Parker Posey and many others.
