Los Angeles, November 18, 2007 – This short busy Thanksgiving holiday week kicked off not only the holiday shopping season, but also the awards season, with Sunday’s American Music Awards. This year’s AMA bash took place in a new venue, the brand new Nokia Theatre in downtown L.A. Like every other music award show of the past year, Carrie Underwood won in so many AMA categories that she actually ran out of thank you speeches; she just didn’t know what else to say or who else to thank. (Seriously, isn’t anyone getting tired of Carrie yet?) Fellow American Idol alum Chris Daughtry also won big, but at least that was new. For now. There were a few other surprises, most notable Beyonce Knowles’ genius duet with country duo Sugarland. Some folks panned it, (we loved it) but hey, at least they stepped out of the box. Beyonce had just been in Asia in the days preceding the AMAs. Miley Cyrus took a few days off from raking in millions on her tour, she spent two days shooting a music video in L.A., and capped it off with a stop at the AMAs. Another surprise of the evening: Fergie was with her live-in love Josh Duhamel. The two have been an item for a while, but are hardly ever seen together in public. |
