New York, October 2, 2007 – Michael Caine insists that the new movie Sleuth is not a remake of his 1972 classic. “Jude Law brought me a script”, Caine told us at the premiere on Tuesday. “What he brought was a completely new movie by Harold Pinter.” So Law felt no trepidation in reprising Caine’s role. “If it hadn’t felt like such a new look at the original concept – two men fighting over a woman – I don’t think Michael would have gotten involved”, Law said. “So I don’t feel like I was treading on his toes any more than he felt like he was treading on Laurence Olivier’s”. Sreenwriter Pinter is known to be something of a recluse, but Sleuth brought him out of the house, director Kenneth Branagh told us. “He was very, very much involved with read-through and then rehearsals, and he came to shooting. He was very much a strong collaborator in the whole thing.” Photos: Joy E. Scheller/LFI |
