New York, September 10, 2007 – Marc Jacobs’ fashion shows are always notoriously late, and this week’s was no exception, delayed a full two hours. At nearby honky tonk Rodeo bar, where we went to wait it out, we were astonished to see Marc Jacobs invitation-clutching fashionistas sipping margaritas, tossing peanut shells on the floor and tapping their stilettos to live country-western music. Back at the Lexington Avenue Armory later, we spent the second hour of the delay chasing down the boldfaced guests. After joking about the crowds and the humidity, SNL comic Amy Poehler admitted that she was thrilled to be invited. “I’m so delighted that he would let me wear his stuff. I’m very excited”, she told us. Sheryl Crow also was awed. “I enjoy fashion; it’s a complete departure for me. I like New York ‘cause it’s edgy and kind of rock n’ roll”, the rocker said. Those watching the lyrical, theatrical fashion show that ran in reverse order included Heath Ledger, Victoria Beckham, Michael Stipe, Mischa Barton, Debbie Harry, Carmen Electra and Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon. Backstage after the show, Courtney Love gave us her assessment. “This is a real triumph of a show. You know, this is f---ing fantastic; so much work went into this. And it’s so cool!” Love gave a little fashion advice herself that evening. When Marc Jacobs recoiled at boyfriend Jason Preston’s lapel pin made from what looked like a dead mouse, Preston told him, “Courtney made me put it on.” Photos: Caroline Torem Craig, Kristin Callahan |
