New York, July 31, 2007 – South Street Seaport, a family-friendly shopping and dining tourist Mecca in lower Manhattan became a metalhead mosh pit on Tuesday when the band Korn performed a free concert. The nu metal gods’ fans are not the typical denizens of the Seaport complex, where Abercrombie & Fitch, The Gap and tall ships are among the attractions. Rowdy fans at the outdoor show cheered and passed bodies over their heads as security guards tried to keep the crowd under control. The raucous concert was a marked contrast to a more subdued press conference earlier in the day in Times Square, where the band discussed their upcoming “Family Values” tour, their commitment to battling global warming and their newly released untitled album. Korn’s tour buses and trucks have been converted to run on biodiesel fuels. The group also announced that they’ve partnered with the USO to give away free concert tickets to U.S. soldiers on leave at all cities on the Family Values tour. |
