New York, July 17, 2007 – New Line Cinema considered every age bracket in promoting the movie musical Hairspray. After holding star-studded premieres in both Hollywood and NYC and having the actors talk up the movie on television shows, Tuesday it was all about the rugrats with the unveiling of Hairspray dolls at the Toys R Us store in Times Square. Of course, it was the film’s younger set of stars, closest in age to toy customers - Nikki Blonsky, Zac Efron, Amanda Bynes and Elijah Kelley - who appeared at the store, signing autographs and posing for photos. (No sign of the ancient John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer or Queen Latifah.) There are two versions of Nikki Blonsky as Tracy Turnblad dolls – one sings. We’re not sure if the other, more casually dressed one does anything, but the package includes a movie poster. There’s also a singing version of High School Musical heartthrob Zac Efron as Link Larkin, and no doubt legions of little girls will be pushing the belly to make it sing. |
