New York, May 31, 2007 – On the 35th anniversary of its FiFi Awards, the Fragrance Foundation took the brave step of setting up in a tent overlooking the Hudson River at the World Financial Center on Thursday. Organizers of the FiFis, considered the “Oscars” of the fragrance industry, were visibly relieved that the weather remained calm, and a breeze even took the edge off of the tropical heat as the sun began to set. Inside that tent, the perfume partiers were treated to a performance by John Legend, who recalled that the first scent he ever used was Calvin Klein’s Eternity. “I was a teenager. I was just trying to smell good and get some girls, you know”, the Grammy winner said. Paula Abdul was roaming around the gala and we hear she’s developing a fragrance of her own!?! Sean “Diddy” Combs’ men’s fragrance, Unforgivable, took a prize, and he gushed, “You know, I started Sean John, I had big dreams. This is big, though. This is big. The CFDA Awards, and this now; this is truly big.” We asked Becki Newton, who plays the deliciously wicked Amanda on Ugly Betty, if she'd heard the news that costar Vanessa Williams’ dog had been stolen. “I didn’t steal her dog”, Newton deadpanned. Who on the Ugly Betty set cracks her up the most? “Michael Urie!” she said without hesitation. “Any time Michael’s near me they need to separate us and give us time outs", Newton told us. "I waste film because I’m laughing. And I can’t stop”. |
