New York, April 30, 2007 – Thank us for those photos you’ll see of a smiling Kirsten Dunst at the New York premiere of Spider-Man 3, during the Tribeca Film Festival. Our photographer asked Dunst to smile. “I can’t smile anymore”, she replied, bushed after endlessly promoting the film all around the world. “You’re an actress – act like you’re smiling”, we told her, and she forced a happy face as she walked the black carpet. The premiere was in Astoria, Queens, the NYC borough where Peter Parker, Spider-Man’s alter ego, lives (in the movie). The hometown folks rose to the occasion, with confetti, a marching band playing the theme song, and hordes of screaming fans that freaked Topher Grace out. “Please stop yelling my name!”, he begged the excited kids across the street, and then explained to us: “Sorry, I’m not used to this. This is by far biggest film I’ve ever been in, and this reception is I think the biggest premiere I’ve ever been to, so I’m just a little overwhelmed.” James Franco has been in all three Spidey films, and he took the chaos in stride. “We usually have the premiere in L.A., and for the third one they really wanted to do it right. And this morning we got a plaque from the Mayor declaring it 'Spider-Man Week', and based on the reactions here and turnout, I think they did well”, Franco said. However, Tobey Maguire handled the situation in the best way – he walked the entire block greeting the fans, shaking hands, posing for camera phones – and pretty much ignored the reporters. |
