New York, April 4, 2007 – For a man who plies his trade on the wheels of steel (a DJ's turntables), fate played an awfully cruel joke on DJ Big Wiz in December of last year when his tour coach went skidding off the road and down a forty-foot ravine after the driver is alleged to have fallen asleep at the wheel.  On the road with Mr. Lif and The Coup between Arizona and San Diego, California, the tour coach passengers narrowly escaped before flames engulfed the coach, musical equipment, and merchandise.   Thankfully no one was killed, but DJ Big Wiz sustained several injuries requiring surgery and extensive physical rehabilitation.  With mounting medical expenses over $100K, Wiz needed help and turned to his musician friends.

The Nuyorican Poets Café in the East Village was hip hop central at Wednesday night's benefit for the recovering DJ
Rob Sonic, Mr. Lif and others performed over the cuts and scratches of DJ Big Wiz, who was on hand behind the Tech 1200's.   Mr. Lif paid tribute to Big Wiz's recovery by turning out some of his classic jams including "Home of the Brave," "Phantom," and a freestyled rendition of "The Fries."  It wasn't a night to run through a full-length performance, Mr. Lif acknowledged, but rather an occasion to give DJ Big Wiz his due.   And due Wiz was given Wednesday night – the Nuyorican was standing room only.

We wish DJ Big Wiz a speedy recovery. He looked OK Wednesday night, walking without crutches and appearing to have complete movement. According to his myspace page, he still has one major operation left to be done on his knee. - Damien Neva
