New York, April 9, 2007 – New Yorkers are a tough audience, and no one knows that better than David Letterman, who tapes his popular late night talk show in the city. Photographers gathered at Letterman’s studio dubbed yesterday “Drive-by Monday” when guests Barack Obama, Halle Berry and pro golf champ Zach Johnson all dashed past without stopping for the requisite photo ops. Obama was the first to leave after taping the show, and when he ran straight into his car, the disappointed journos began chanting “Hil-La-Ry!”, “Hil-La-Ry!” Bystanders could see the personable Barack laughing through his car windows as he drove off. Next out the door and into his car was golf champ Zach Johnson, who beat Tiger Woods in the Masters tournament. Johnson did not laugh when cries of “Tiger!” “Tiger!” broke out. (The poor guy probably has no idea how to handle the media. He’d literally been thrust into the limelight that day – hardly anyone had even heard of him until Sunday’s stunning golf victory.) Finally, when Halle Berry, who was promoting her new movie, Perfect Stranger, bolted across the street, signed a few autographs and disappeared, people shouted, “Jennifer Aniston would have posed!”. (Halle’s movie has it’s premiere this week, and she’s most likely saving her camera time for that.) |
