New York, April 12, 2007 - Subway riders emerging from the station at Avenue of the Americas and Spring Street on Thursday evening were shocked to find a lunatic standing upright on a motorcycle – hands in the air – zooming straight toward them. It was motorcycle daredevil Kyle Woods, performing stunts to celebrate the opening of Triumph Motorcycles’ NYC showroom. With the smell of burning rubber from his shredded rear tire still thick in the air, Woods told us that this was his first time riding a bike on the pitted streets of Manhattan. “I’ve been to New York before, but I’ve never driven on the streets. You know, I’ve seen the streets and I’ve definitely felt them in the cabs.” His advice for scooting around the city on a motorcycle: “Ride like you’re in a video game and everybody’s out to kill you. As long as you ride like that, then you’re going to be fine”, Woods said. “But if you joyride carelessly, and you’re like, ooh, look at the building, you’re going to crash and die.” Grey’s Anatomy hottie Justin Chambers thinks the Triumph Scrambler model he tried out for a few months is a cool bike, but his riding style is more like the father of five that he is than that of the bad boy he portrays on TV. “I’ve never even taken them [bikes] on the highway”, he said at the opening party. “Where I grew up in Ohio I would ride, but not so much in L.A.” |
