New York, April 17-18, 2007 – Well, Avril Lavigne did say in the May issue of Lucky magazine that her makeup regimen includes “tons of mascara and eyeliner”, so we shouldn’t have been so surprised when she showed up at her record release party on Tuesday evening with a clown-worthy amount of goop on her eyelids. Some folks wondered aloud if this was a drag queen imitating Avril – but the creature in the fluffy pink cloud of a dress got out of a car with Lavigne’s husband, Deryck Whibley, so it most likely was the original article.

Rocker Whibley shyly posed for photos, and then headed on into The Box, the hot downtown nightspot, while his wife did the red carpet routine to promote her new album, The Best Damn Thing.

The party was part of the punky Canadian pop star’s two-day media blitz in New York. With her eyes ringed in more traditional racoon-like black, Avril hit the David Letterman show earlier that day, and played a live set for an odd assortment of fans the next day at a Virgin Megastore in Times Square.
