New York, March 6-7, 2007 – The United Nations continues to be New York City’s hottest celebrity hangout, with three Oscar winners visiting the joint this week alone. On Tuesday, U.N. Messenger of Peace and two-time Oscar winner Michael Douglas brought a surprise guest when he stopped by to meet new Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. That unannounced guest was his Oscar-winning wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, who quietly slipped into the background after being introduced to the Secretary-General. The following day, The Virtue Foundation and Avon Products commemorated International Women’s Day by bringing newly-minted Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson to the U.N. headquarters. Hudson spoke for about five minutes at the event, called The Global Summit for a Better Tomorrow, and perhaps she was nervous, because she read directly from her notes, with an almost childlike quality. (Imagine being nervous speaking in front of a few hundred people after appearing live before millions on the Academy Awards, and before that, on American Idol.) Jennifer then headed to the Delegates' dining room for an interview and photo op, and she seemed much more relaxed at that point. CSI: New York actress Melina Kanakaredes also addressed the Women’s Day summit. |
