Los Angeles, February 17, 2007 – Even Helen Mirren’s clothing is dominating this year’s awards season: both The Queen and Elizabeth 1 were winners at Saturday’s Costume Designers Guild Awards. Mirren herself was presented with an award for distinguished acting at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel ceremony.

The big surprise of the evening, hosted by actress Jane Kaczmarek, was when Curse of the Golden Flower triumphed over Dreamgirls, Marie Antoinette, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, and The Illusionist for best costumes in a period film.

Ugly Betty, Rome and Pan’s Labyrinth took awards, and Sandra Bullock received the Swarovski President’s Award.

New York fixture Patricia Field, nominated for her costume designs in The Devil Wears Prada, decided that when in Hollywood, one should have a fire crotch, and sported an orange thong beneath her barely-there fringed dress. We are not sure of Field's exact age, but she opened her first New York City shop more than 40 years ago, in 1966.
