New York, January 18, 2007 – We stopped by iconic artist LeRoy Neiman’s cavernous studio/apartment where he got Joe Namath, the subject of his newest work titled “Handoff – Super Bowl III”, to sign a limited edition of the painting. The nylon-wearing football great chatted about all kinds of things – he still has the fur coat he was famous for wearing back in the day, and he thinks kids today are too sedentary, playing with electronic gadgets instead of running around outdoors. Broadway Joe even talked shop a little – he thinks New England looks good for this year’s Super Bowl, and that Tom Brady is the best quarterback in a tough situation. Neiman’s immense working/living space is a true working artist’s home, complete with paint-splattered floors and art-filled walls. It’s really a typical artist’s loft in many ways except one: location. Rather than in some gritty, inconvenient neighborhood, Neiman’s aerie is on Manhattan’s Central Park West, near Tavern on the Green. |
