New York, December 18, 2006 – Cate Blanchett robs a cradle in Notes on a Scandal, playing a teacher who has an affair with her teenaged student, played by Andrew Simpson, now 17 years old. At the movie’s premiere, Simpson chatted about how friends and family reacted to news of the steamy role. “You’re a lucky boy”, said his schoolmates back in Ireland. “My mom asked me to do a comedy next”, he added. But shooting the scenes was less than sizzling; “When there’s forty people watching you in a thong, it’s pretty scary", Simpson said, laughing. Bill Nighy said he that didn’t have any advice for his young costar, and told The Carpetbagger that he was naked onstage for his first kissing scene – with a man! Nighy is currently appearing opposite Julianne Moore on Broadway in The Vertical Hour, and he’s loving it. “She’s somebody that I’ve admired for years and years, and I get to work with her eight times a week”, he told us. “And she’s also enchanting company, and a bloody good laugh. So we have a good time.” |
