Los Angeles, October 12, 2006 – It wouldn’t be remarkable that Jennifer Garner, like many people, is embarrassed to be seen with Ben Affleck, except, you know, he’s her husband. Jen went out of her way to avoid posing for photos with Ben at Thursday’s Children’s Defense Fund Beat The Odds Awards. She ignored photographers’ requests on the red carpet, and some even followed her inside the Beverly Hills Hotel, where Jen outsmarted them, slipping through a side door to avoid being caught on camera with that Affleck dude. (All that spy training on Alias paid off!)

Paparazzi-hater Reese Witherspoon, on the other hand, was unusually cooperative with the press, perhaps because her husband, Ryan Phillippe, was not there. Everyone wondered where Ryan was, since he and Reese co-chaired the event, but he was shooting a movie in New York City that day.

Maria Bello, Keri Russell, Regina King and Lost creator J.J. Abrams also spent the evening eluding Affleck.
