New York, October 5, 2006 – Democrats were out in force Thursday night in the Big Apple. Democratic New York state gubernatorial candidate Eliot Spitzer was the keynote speaker at gay rights organization Empire State Pride Agenda’s annual fall dinner. Actor Edward Norton told the crowd that he knows he is breaking a lot of hearts, but he is straight. “At least, I hope I’m breaking some hearts”, he quipped. Norton offered a litany of reasons – being an actor, working on Broadway, and having lots of gay friends – for his support of Spitzer’s pro-gay marriage stance. Queer Eye’s Kyan Douglas spoke, Frenchie Davis performed, and we were thrilled to see Brokeback Mountain star Anne Hathaway at the dinner. Meanwhile, Harvey Weinstein hosted a private screening of the movie Bobby for prominent democrats including Senator Charles Schumer. Senator Frank Lautenberg and actor Martin Sheen arrived in the same car at the Plaza Athenee after party, where they mingled with Christian Slater, Lauren Bacall and Ron Howard. |
