New York, August 8, 2006 – The New York Observer hosted two movie premieres in two days, and we were promised the presence of “Jared Kushner, the 25-year-old new owner” of the newspaper at both. Having not laid eyes on the young millionaire at Monday's bigger, glitzier, more star-studded Trust the Man premiere, we demanded (OK, begged) that the Observer show us the money on Tuesday, at the IFC Center’s Factotum screening. While we were surprised to find the normally reticent actor Matt Dillon affable and talkative, we were stunned at Jared Kushner’s youthful appearance. (Is the newspaper thing a Boy Scout project, we wondered?) We asked the whiz kid, who attends law school, runs a real estate business and now works 20-hour days at The Observer, about important issues, like does he now have women throwing themselves at him, and how does he find time to pursue hobbies. And with no representatives of any kind hovering over his shoulder, he shot back beautifully crafted evasive answers without hesitation, giving us a glimpse of the real Jared Kushner, a publicist's dream.
