New York, August 17 – A host of really, really famous folks turned out for the Broadway opening of Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me, a musical revue that pokes fun at….fame. Celebrities on hand to see funny man Short mock celebrity culture included Billy Crystal, Jerry Seinfeld, Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker, Nathan Lane, Bette Midler, Lauren Bacall and Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, who is currently doing her own stint on Broadway, in the musical Chicago. Katie Couric, dressed down in long, flowy peasant skirt and denim jacket, slipped into the theater unnoticed. We missed Goldie Hawn, who supposedly sneaked in through a back door to avoid being asked by reporters about her daughter Kate Hudson’s marital split and rumored affair with co-star Owen Wilson. Shrieks of “Superman!” from fans lining the street tipped us off that the handsome guy nonchalantly ambling down the red carpet was James Marsden, who stars in this summer’s blockbusters Superman Returns and X-Men: The Last Stand. Marsden’s next project is quite different: the movie version of the musical Hairspray. While he said he has dabbled with singing before, he’s “still working” on the dancing. Hilarious Tina Fey, who is leaving Saturday Night Live after nine years on the show, said that she’s going to miss Saturdays, spending all day and into the night with her co-stars. Sundays, however, she expects will be much nicer. |
