New York, August 16-18 – We caught up with Boy George a few more times during his five-day community service sentence with the New York City Sanitation Department. On Wednesday, George was in fine form, snapping comebacks at the media. When OAN’s reporter tried to open a dialogue with, “I used to live around here”, George shot back, “Maybe that’s why it’s so dirty”. We told him that we weren’t thrilled about waking at 6 A.M. the previous Monday to catch his opening day, and George deadpanned, “You were probably doing nothing, anyway.”

Someone began singing George’s famous song “Karma Chameleon”, and when he got to the line, “You come and go. You come and go.”, the pop singer harmonized with “You go away. You go away.”

To a bossy female co-worker George intoned, “You’re very demanding”. Struggling to fit a green trash bag around the lip of his trashcan was, George said, “like putting on a giant condom.”

On his final day, we tagged along when George took his afternoon break; he stopped at a Bodega, smoked a cigarette and sipped a Coca-Cola, who, he believes should make a bigger marketing push to gay consumers.

George plans to take a week to catch up after the sweeping sentence, and then he’s right back to work. Although George reportedly makes quite a bit of money for his DJ gigs, he plans to stay put in the U.K., and not dodge taxes, ala the Rolling Stones and their Dutch corporation. “I’m a socialist. How much money do you need?” he said, and added that part of being wealthy is being able to live where you want.
