New York, June 12, 2006 – "Until the Violence Stops",
a two-week festival dedicated to bringing attention to the issue of violence
against women, opened on Monday with some very outspoken – and talented
– women participating. Kathy Bates, Marcia
Gay Harden, legendary Marian Seldes and Jane
Fonda came together at Studio 54 for a reading of Eve
Ensler’s Necessary Targets. Folks were mildly
surprised that Kerry Washington was wearing jeans and
a tank top, but she had come directly from a movie set, and was still
in costume. The reading benefited V-Day, the global anti-violence movement
that playwright Ensler founded. For information on the festival’s
program of theater, spoken word, art and panel discussion events, check
