New York, June 11, 2006 – America’s Boricua royalty, Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez, led the Puerto Rican Day parade up Fifth Avenue on Sunday. The couple joined Mayor Bloomberg in greeting the crowd at a press conference at 44th Street, where the parade began. Trying their best to fit in with the common folks, J. Lo left her stylist at home, and though we're sure the mayor would have loved to oblige, she had only Marc to adjust her shoe. But he managed the menial task with ease, keeping Jenny from the block’s street cred intact. (Although we noted that Jennifer had the fashion sense to not wear a tacky sash across her chest, like her husband.) Her high heels all shipshape, they marched from 44th to 72nd Street, where they boarded a yellow Corvette convertible, which drove them, waving to their admirers, to 82nd Street. During this regal drive, police officers got a little overzealous in
trying to control the trailing crowd paparazzi, several of whom were pushed
to the ground. In fact, our Senator Hillary Clinton joined the parade, and Rosie Perez and Jimmy Smits rode together on a float promoting her documentary, Yo soy Boricua, pa'que tu lo sepas!, about the New York Puerto Rican Day parade. Later that evening, Rosie went to the Tony Awards. |
