New York, June 11, 2006 – Open All Night spent all day Sunday at the 2006 Tony Awards, starting first thing in the morning with the swag suite, er, make that rehearsals. Yes, in between making sure their evening appearances on the Tony telecast were flawless, famous folks - some dressed in sweats and Britney-style curlers - streamed backstage to a room that had been converted into a lounge/swag station, where a sunglass purveyor promptly busted Molly Ringwald for wearing fake Guccis. Marcia Gay Harden told us that her 7-year-old daughter, Eulala, was starstruck. “She saw Julie Andrews, and looked up; it was like a child looking at the sunshine.” Then Harry Belafonte sang Day-O to the little girl. We changed into evening clothes and zipped back in time for the Tony Awards red carpet madhouse, where fans screamed the loudest for Oprah Winfrey. Oprah’s buddy, Gayle King, laughed off a publicist’s warning, and caught up with Alfre Woodard, who had just arrived wearing the exact same dress. Rosie Perez told us that she hadn't been wearing her Dolce & Gabbana gown earlier that day, while riding on a float in the Puerto Rican Day parade. In the afternoon, we’d met a glowing Cynthia Nixon and her girlfriend backstage, and after winning her best leading actress award, Cynthia said she planned to dance all night.
