Washington, D.C., April 29, 2006 – If you’re a comedian, professionally, and are out-funnied by George W. Bush, should you consider a career change? We mean, Bush is not funny. Well, Bush is funny; hilarious, even, but not intentionally. This is confusing, and we had a lot to drink, but it seems that President Bush slayed the crowd at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Saturday, and was, in fact, the proverbial hard act to follow for actual comedian Stephen Colbert, whose routine went over with a thud. So, when does the Colbert for president campaign kick off? Later, at the Bloomberg party, we overheard someone ask Colbert how he thought his schtick went. “Balls. Big, hairy balls”, he replied. Outed spy Valerie Plame looked glamorous for D.C., quite the Bond girl, and she and her husband, Joseph Wilson, were the center of attention. Jeopardy host Alex Trebek spent the entire evening with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. George Clooney hung out with Madeleine Albright at the pre-dinner Newsweek party, and did not attend the Bloomberg bash. Terrence Howard was excited to see the president. “How cool is that?”, the Oscar-nominated actor gushed. We shivered in the chill that descended when Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff came face-to-face with New York Governor George Pataki; their eyes met, but the two did not acknowledge one another.
