Las Vegas, May 23, 2006 – Ironically broadcast opposite the mega-popular second-to-final episode of American Idol, none other that Idol winners Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood reigned at the Academy of Country Music Awards at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Underwood took two ACM awards, for new female vocalist and single of the year. His tumultuous marriage and divorce from Renee Zellweger doesn’t seem to have affected Kenny Chesney’s career; he was named entertainer of the year for the second year running. Male vocalist of the year Keith Urban didn’t bring along his fiancée Nicole Kidman, and Vince Vaughn, who presented an award, was without his girlfriend and co-star Jennifer Aniston, as usual.
