Women Rule at GLAAD Awards
The Arquette girls Rosanna, Alexis & Patricia
Charlize Theron
Jessica Alba
Jennifer Tilly, Queen of Chucky
Will finally has a date: Eric McCormack & wife Janet Holden
Megan Mullally

Los Angeles, April 8, 2006 – The men at the GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday were OK, but the lesbians in the audience must have been hot under their collars with two of Hollywood’s most beautiful women, Charlize Theron and Jessica Alba, at the Kodak Theater. Theron memorably raised the awareness of gays and lesbians with her Oscar-winning portrayal of a lesbian serial killer in 2003's Monster.

Some Desperate Housewives glammed up the awards again this year, but oddly, Felicity Huffman, whose film Transamerica was honored, and who attended last year’s ceremony, wasn’t there. And you’ll have to watch the show on VH1 on April 16 to see Teri Hatcher and Nicollette Sheridan, because they declined to do press. Is she getting a big head, or is Teri just mortified about kissing Ryan Seacrest? This is the fourth recent event at which we’ve witnessed the normally accessible Hatcher’s red carpet phobia.

We were excited to see Jennifer Tilly, who may be best-loved by gay audiences for her role in the thriller Bound, but who we revere for her recurring role alongside that cute little ragamuffin, Chucky, after whom one of our cats is named. (Certainly, we’ve noticed that GLAAD has overlooked the Chucky series of films. Perhaps “Son of Chucky” will turn out to be gay…)

Rosanna and Patricia Arquette accompanied their brother, and possible future sister, Alexis. Other fabulous women at the GLAAD Media Awards included Melissa Etheridge, Laura Dern, Jaime Pressly and Judy Gold.

Will & Grace stars Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Megan Mullally and Sean Hayes accepted an award for best comedy series, and bid farewell as the long-running sitcom comes to a close this season.

GLAAD stages four separate media awards ceremonies. Saturday’s was in Los Angeles, the others are in New York, Miami and San Francisco.
