Los Angeles, Feb. 25, 2006 – Among a strong field of nominees, Alicia Keys was the big music winner at the NAACP Image Awards, with three nods - for female artist, top song and video. Both Keys and Mariah Carey were each nominated for four awards, and Carey’s Emancipation of Mimi was named best album. Legends Carlos Santana and the Neville Brothers won achievement awards. Jamie Foxx, who won an Oscar last year, is now looking to conquer the music world. NAACP named him best male musical artist. It seems that nobody hates Chris Rock since he’s become an adult; his hit TV series, Everybody Hates Chris, got the trophy. TV’s biggest winner was Bernie Mac, whose comedy show took three prizes, for best actor, supporting actress and directing. Cuba Gooding, Jr. hosted the awards that honor artists of color in movies, television, music and literature. The star turnout included Samuel L. Jackson, Star Jones, Kimberly Elise, India.Arie, Macy Gray, Tyra Banks, Chris Brown and Terrence Howard. Fashionistas, correct us if we’re wrong, but was Kerry Washington’s dress a more opaque version of the infamous sheer Gaultier that Teri Hatcher wore to the Grammys? The NAACP Image Awards air March 3, on Fox. |
