Destiny Fulfilled: The Seat Filler
Jada Pinkett Smith has a part, but not in this movie
Kelly Rowland & Duane Martin
Chris Rock checks out how to be an award show non-participant

Los Angeles, Feb. 22, 2006 – We often wonder how people get into some really interesting jobs; we know our college didn’t offer a major in, say, lighting design, or in writing subtitles, like the English-language translations that appear at the Metropolitan Opera, so you finally understand that those Italian operas are, in fact, soap operas set to music.

But never, until the premiere of The Seat Filler, in which Duane Martin plays a seat filler at award shows, did we imagine that there was a job so suited to our talents. (If any readers can recommend a good masters degree program in this exciting field, please e-mail.) Chris Rock, who will not be repeating his Academy Awards hosting gig this year, came to see how the seated and silent half behave. Singer Kelly Rowland, of Destiny’s Child, stars in the film, so we’re sure she picked up a few pointers for being there when not nominated.
