EXCLUSIVE – Redondo Beach, CA, Dec. 5, 2005 – Tyra
Banks knows that more than just good looks are important, and she
took a break from breaking in top models to reward some top students. Tyra
visited about 250 Redondo Beach, CA high school students who had consistently
maintained a grade point average of at least 3.3 over the last three years.
Banks congratulated the students on their academic achievement, and then proceeded to give them all G-Shock watches and Rock & Republic jeans. She originally planned to give one lucky kid a cell phone, but then said, “I can’t just give it to one of you”, and gave each a T-Mobile Samsung phone so new that it’s not even on the market yet. When one teen tried to activate his phone, T-Mobile asked him how he’d gotten it. Tyra was taping the lunch period visit for a segment on her talk show, and brought along a few America's Next Top Model contestants dressed as elves. It’s not clear how she chose Redondo Union High School, which is located in an upscale town where houses cost over $1 million. But we’re sure you can find some of the swag on eBay by now. |
