New York, November 30, 2005 – The Gallery at SoHo Grand is conveniently located in the hotel’s bar area, a fitting location for "Rock ‘n Roll Eye", an exhibition of photographer Mick Rock’s iconic images of legends like Iggy Pop, Mick Jagger and David Bowie. A downtown crowd packed the raucous opening party with another portrait subject, Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, a featured DJ. Noting a photo of a scantily-clad Kate Moss, we asked Mick Rock if he’s been in touch with the troubled supermodel. “I was there when the story broke”, Rock said. You were there with her? “No, I f---ing wasn’t with her. No, no. No, those days of hanging out at that time of the day with a beaker up my nose are long gone. But Kate certainly gets up for it.” Rock described Kate as unpretentious, a very cool lady who is just like one of the boys. “She wanted to be the Keith Richards of the modeling industry, and she got there! I remember one of the first times that I met her, I said, ‘Oh yeah, in the old days, she couldn’t have stayed up. You couldn’t have hung out with us, man’. And she said, ‘What do you mean? I stayed up four nights with Keith Richards!’ I was like, f--k it man, even in my prime I couldn’t have done that! A week with Lou Reed, maybe.” Heatherette designer Richie Rich chimed in. “Kate Moss, to me, is exactly what fashion is. To me, she should, like, be president of the United States, and Naomi should be in the house with her, and life would be perfect.” Take note, fashionable voters. Exhibition runs thru Jan. 30, 2006, Gallery at SoHo Grand, 310 West Broadway, NYC. |
