Los Angeles, October 25, 2005 – Just as their Johnny Cash biopic
Walk the Line is about to open, Joaquin Phoenix
and Reese Witherspoon hosted a mega-concert tribute to
the late country music legend. Quite a coincidence, no? Commercial ploy
or not, the concert, taped over two days at L.A.’s Pantages Theater,
included an amazing roster of performances by Norah Jones,
Kid Rock, bluegrass star Alison Krauss,
the Foo Fighters, Martina McBride and many others. Kris
Kristofferson, who worked with Cash in the group The Highwaymen,
performed, and Jerry Lee Lewis captivated the audience.
Other artists, like U2 and Sheryl Crow, pre-taped performances,
and the whole concert, I Walk the Line: A Night for Johnny Cash,
will be aired on CBS on November 16. Hey, guess what? That’s the
same week the Cash biopic hits theaters.
