New York, October 30, 2005 – It was dueling premieres in New York on Sunday, with Jennifer Aniston battling her former The Good Girl costar Jake Gyllenhaal for red carpet dominance. Naturally, we went to both. The biggest news at Derailed: no Vince Vaughn present on the red carpet, inside the theater or at the after party. (OK, we’re obsessive.) Aniston didn’t give interviews to us gossipy types; we can’t imagine why. Her Derailed costars Clive Owen, Melissa George, Xzibit and RZA – the two rappers act in this film – were all chatty. “Jen is lovely”, according to, um, everyone who worked on the movie. Harvey and Bob Weinstein introduced the film to the audience, and we learned that Derailed is the first movie released by the newly formed Weinstein Company. We learned that repeatedly. Don’t forget it. Got that? It’s the first one. They’re very happy about that. And proud. That’s Weinstein. Meanwhile, over at the Ziegfeld Theatre, the Jarhead guys were as dateless as Aniston. Jake Gyllenaal and Peter Sarsgaard were there, but no Kirsten Dunst or Maggie Gyllenhaal. Jamie Foxx was late, but also solo. One guy wasn’t abandoned by his lady for the premiere: director Sam Mendes’ gorgeous wife, Kate Winslet, lit up the red carpet. We noticed Jake’s Brokeback Mountain director, Ang Lee, slipping into the theater for a look. |
