Los Angeles, July 19-25 – In New York it’s all about money, in Hollywood it’s the creative side that counts. For the past couple of weeks all over Los Angeles, television networks have been rolling out the red carpet, as well as food, drinks and swag, for the Television Critics Association tour, a marathon presentation of the fall TV lineup. The same sort of drill takes place in New York, called the Upfronts, only there it is advertisers that are courted with the royal treatment. We’ve been hitting these TCA parties, and there are too many to keep track of, so we’ll just touch on a few highlights. Vincent D’Onofrio, who rarely makes public appearances, turned out for NBC’s bash at the Century Club. Moreover, the Law & Order star was uncharacteristically cheerful, making nice to critics. NBC threw a separate party for their drama Las Vegas, and while hunky star Josh Duhamel brought his fiancée Fergie, of the band Black Eyed Peas, he was kind of cranky. Melanie Griffith will be starring in a new WB comedy, Twins, and we’re sure she was delighted to run into her two-time ex-husband Don Johnson, who will star in a legal drama, at the network’s party at Cabana Club. The TCA revelry continues. |
