New York, July 17-23 – TRL gets all the love. Canceling the premiere and other promotional activities connected with her film, November, Courteney Cox Arquette still appeared on MTV’s Total Request Live on Friday in a teal Marc Jacobs frock.

Before taking the Central Park stage with Elvis Costello, Emmylou Harris thrilled fans at Tower records, playing guitar and singing. She’s got a new retrospective “best-of” CD out, in case you’re a fan. Emmylou was great, but we found ourselves scrutinizing her, wondering if she’s taken Michael Jackson’s nose and plopped it onto her face.

There was more fun for New York shoppers at Kmart, where Thalia unveiled her newest album, El Sexto Sentido, which, despite the Latin superstar’s hot pants, has nothing to do with sex. It translates to "The Sixth Sense". Coincidentally, Kmart carries Thalia’s fashion line, so you could pick up some hot pants to wear while dancing to her new CD.

Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein appeared at a screening of All the President’s Men, a 1976 film based on their book about Deep Throat and bringing down the Nixon administration. For younger readers unfamiliar with this type of investigative journalism, today’s equivalent is hiding in the bushes outside Britney Spears’ house, patiently waiting for candid photos.

Despite wearing head-to-toe black, Billy Bob Thornton seemed unaffected by the wilting heat at an East Harlem ball field, where kids from his new film, Bad News Bears, played a local team. A relaxed Thornton tossed a few pitches, joked and signed autographs for fans, who were treated to pizza and soda.
