May 19-24 – The Longest Yard publicity juggernaut has swept both coasts starting with a big premiere in Hollywood, with David and Courteney Cox Arquette, Jesse Metcalfe and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, wife Maria Shriver and their brood in the house. Even Napoleon Dynamite himself, Jon Heder, came out to meet Burt Reynolds, Chris Rock and Nelly. The Yard gang then made the rounds in New York, where, in keeping with the football theme, MTV staged a tailgate party on the street outside its Times Square studios. New York Jets fans in black and Oakland Raiders fans in green joined in, and Adam Sandler got into the spirit by spray-painting a shirtless fan and donning a bright green wig. Open All Night’s team made the right move at the New York screening by not admitting that we hadn’t yet seen the new remake, nor have we seen the 1974 original film, since Reynolds infamously slapped a CBS producer for that same offense. |
